4-H Shooting Sports Travel to National Competition
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 • Posted July 21, 2011

The Blanco County 4-H Shooting Education Team #1 traveled to Rogers, Arkansas over the 4th of the July weekend to compete at the 2011 Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match. This talented group of shooters were among 48 of the best shooting teams across the nation. Proudly representing Blanco County and the great state of Texas were Caleb Dowdy (son of Gordon and DeAnn Dowdy), Ross Sultemeier (son of Shannon and Cindi Sultemeier), Darren Sultemeier (son of Shelby and Becky Sultemeier), Brenna Wallace (daughter of Will and Peggy Wallace), Ashtyn Portie (daughter of Glen and Gwen Portie), and Jenna Vasquez (daughter of Tim and Margie Vasquez). The proud coach of this team was Gordon S. Dowdy.

Team members shoot in four positions and shoot Daisy’s Model 499 Champion gun a distance of 5 meters at paper targets. Team and individual competition was very challenging. Along with four positions of shooting, the competitors also take a 50 question written test over rules and gun safety.

The shooters had a great time competing, as well as being special guests of Daisy, which included attending a Minors Baseball game between the Arkansas Naturals and San Antonio Missions, as well as taking a tour of the Daisy Manufacturing Plant and the Daisy Museum.

The group would like to send out a special thanks to all of those who contributed to the raffle fundraiser and to individuals and businesses who supported our youth. The shooters wouldn’t be able to accomplish all that they do without the support of the Blanco County community and they want everyone to know that they appreciate it very much.
