Dear Editor,

Our totem pole is gone!

It is beyond me why anyone would just drive onto private property and pick up something that does not belong to them. I know I hear that it happens everyday, but when it happens to you, you feel so violated. Overall, you don’t hear about most of these thefts in our sweet town of Blanco. I love Blanco and don’t believe that it is a town full of thieves, but they’re coming through here from somewhere. And obviously these people had driven by enough times to see we were not there 24/7 and saw an opportunity and took it. How sad for these people that this is what they’ve come to be. I pray that this was a one time event for them and never do such a thing ever again. Hopefully they will see it in their heart to return my piece. I will forgive them and it will be dropped.

My husband, my dad and I have been working so hard on the landscape on our new property that we purchased on Lindeman Lane, right off Hwy 32. We are still trying to sell our property on Rolling Hills Road, so until that happens we just continue to work on our landscape of the place we plan to build our new home. My dad and I had just recently taken down a totem pole from the existing home and planned to put it up this week in the new landscape on Lindeman. Yes, it was laying in plain sight, but whoever came into the property had to take down the fence before entering. We did get them on camera and hopefully we will be able to track my beautiful pole from there.

So, for whoever took my totem pole, just to let you know what a fine piece of art you have. This was given to me by my husband when we built our home on Rolling Hills Rd. He had this custom made for me by Jerry Hendricks, here in Blanco, who does wood sculpture carvings with his chainsaw and his signature is carved right there into it. My husband has given me many pieces that Jerry has carved for me, but this was one of my favorites.

I will give the people that were involved in this theft this week to return my totem pole back to where you found it, no questions asked. However, if this is not done by the end of this week, all pictures will be turned over to the Sheriffs Dept. for a full investigation. Anyone who might have any information about this theft can also come forward and call me for an award of $100, if it leads to the people involved.

I realize this is just a material thing, but these thefts need to stop. The people who are pulling onto private properties and taking what they want, so they can go out and sell it or whatever, need to stop. At some point these people need to get a job and work for their living like the rest of us do, instead of stealing from everyone that they can.

Warning! I have pictures!
