A Sobering Thought

Hell. Not a pleasant thought. Feared by some, and ignored by many. Nevertheless, Hell is real. Hell is eternal. Hell is the final destination for all of those who do not receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is so very unpopular nowadays. One is considered old fashioned at best, and just plain hateful at worst, for even believing such a thing, or making such a statement. However, my feelings and your feelings are not the point. The point is, what is the truth? Does Hell really exist? Is it a real place? Do people really go there? Do they really go there forever? The Bible has very clear and specific answers to all of these questions, and I would like to take an honest look at them.

First off, one must agree that the Bible is God’s eternal Word. If you do not believe that, then obviously you won’t believe what it has to say about Hell. So, is the Bible really God’s Word? Let’s take a look. The Bible contains approximately 1,000 prophecies, 500 hundred of which have been fulfilled to the letter. No other book – I repeat, no other book – can come remotely close to making that claim. It is mathematically off the charts. What about the other 500? They are yet future, but the Bible’s track record says they will happen. 40 different authors over 1600 years in three different languages wrote individual books, yet the Bible comes out a cohesive, understandable unit – a complete and perfect story. It is like no other book in history. It has outlived all of it’s critics, and every attempt to destroy it has failed. It is hands down the best selling Book in history. God preserves His Word (Ps 12:6-7).

Still don’t believe The Bible is God’s Word? Then I pity you. Perhaps you pity me for believing in “fairy tales”. Don’t pity me. If I am wrong, I have lost nothing. I die and turn into worm dirt. If you are wrong, you have wasted your life on this earth, and you will burn, but never be consumed, in the Lake of Fire forever. There will be a judgment day. The Book of Life will be opened, and if your name is not found in it, you will forever suffer damnation in the fires and darkness of Hell (Rev 20:10-15). Fear and pain the likes of which you cannot comprehend.

Many of you teeter on the edge of this fate. You take pride in your intellect, and boast against those poor, misguided, simpleton Christians. You mock the Words of Christ. You are too smart to believe in nonsense like the Bible. “Oh, it’s just a book written by men”. My friend, men aren’t smart enough to come up with a book like The Bible. It is supernatural. Yet, you know better. You serve the god of self; or the god you have made up in your head. You serve your god that tells you what you want to hear, rather than tells you the truth. You consider yourself wise, because you pick and choose what you want to believe, and kneel at the alter of your hodge-podge made up religion that caters to your needs.

What guarantee do you have for tomorrow? Will today be your last? Tomorrow? Next week? You don’t know. You have no control over it. Most people that died today, woke up like they do every morning - expecting to be back home for supper. And they never showed up. They are gone. Where did they go? Perhaps their body went to the morgue; but where did they really go? Where will you go? There are no second chances. It is appointed to man once to die, and then the judgment (Heb 9:27).

In Hell, the worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched. In Hell, you will beg to have your tongue touched with just a drop off water; but you will not get it. You will beg that family members be warned not to come there. But you had the Bible. The truth was at your finger tips. God came in the flesh to give you salvation, so that you would not perish (Jn 3:16). If you reject the gift of God, what is there left for you (Heb 10:26-39)? The fires of everlasting torment, that’s what. Some joke about Hell; but it won’t be funny once you’re there.

There is nothing – absolutely nothing – more important in this life than knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Everything else is minor compared to this. This is foundational. Who cares how rich, how pretty, how smart, how respected you are; if you die tonight and wake up in eternal Hell? Who cares how much fun you’ve had? Who cares what you have accomplished? Do you see it doesn’t matter if you don’t have Jesus? Don’t you see?

“What about those people that have never heard the Gospel?” you ask. What about you! Why do you skirt the issue with your finite logic and ideas of justice? What are y-o-u going to do with Jesus? That is what you will be held accountable for. Don’t waste another minute. Get right with God right now. Repent and be converted. Acknowledge you are a sinner, because we all are. You are a deceived fool if you think you’re not. Give your life to Christ!

Hell was created for the devil and his angles; but you will go there of your own accord, if you choose to reject the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. This is truth, uncomfortable as it may be to you. I will be criticized for saying these things, but I love you enough to tell you the truth. If you reject it, that’s between you and God. If you do reject it, my heart breaks for you. Your end will come, and the deal will be sealed. I pray you make the right choice today. You must be born again (Jn 3:7).
