The Blanco County Association of Retired Educators will have its first meeting of 2011-2012 on Thursday, August 25 at 11:30 AM at the Uptown Blanco Restaurant in Blanco. The meeting will begin with lunch that individuals can order from the regular menu.
The program will include a presentation by Members’ Benefits advisor Seth Taylor, who will explain Texas Retired Teacher Association (TRTA) benefits. Blanco County Executive Committee members who attended a similar session at the Area XIII spring workshop report that they gained new information about retiree benefits.
Annual local and state dues of $30 can be paid on the day of the meeting or can be mailed to the treasurer, Cindy Sultemeier at 5421 RR 1320, Johnson City, TX 78636. Those who have automatic TRTA dues payments can bring the $5.00 annual local chapter dues to the meeting. It is important to note that dues are now tax deductible. TRTA has worked to save our state pension and to keep cuts to retiree health insurance to a minimum.
The Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is one of the most solid and solvent retirement funds in the nation. Texas retirees must be diligent to protect the fund their contributions established during their period of service. In addition, it is important for all retired educators to advocate for Texas public schools and the teachers and other employees who now serve in order to protect the legacy of public education in Texas.
