Joint Blanco/Johnson City Chamber Mixer a Huge Success!
Johnson City Chamber of Commerce

On Thursday, August 11, members from both the Blanco and Johnson City Chambers gathered together at the Miller Creek RV Resort Recreation Room and enjoyed a fabulous evening of food, beverage, networking, prizes, and fun, fun, fun. I’m going to be honest with you and share that I had numerous folks from the public tell me that this couldn’t be done successfully. They said Blanco and Johnson City folks wouldn’t participate together and it would be a flop. Comments such as those were what motivated Penny Thomas and me to prove the naysayers wrong. There were 126 attendees at the mixer, not just attending but mixing, and, quite frankly, mixing well. So… we say to you naysayers-Hogwash! You were wrong.

Now, I’d have to say that Penny and I really didn’t have to do anything but make sure the word got out and take care of the preparations; the success of the mixer was due to our absolutely awesome chamber members. The attendees, all 126 of them, had a wonderful time, met many new folks, and wanted to know when the next one would be. Of course, our goal is to serve our members, so you can bet they’ll get another one. Not only did our members attend, several new members joined both chambers that evening, and we welcome them aboard and look forward to serving them.

Of course, there was some mild stimulation to attend the mixer – door prizes… and lots of them. In order to be eligible to win a door prize, members were required to play network bingo, and play they did. For those of you curious about what network bingo is, it’s a bingo card that included nine names from both chambers and all the members were required to meet each of those folks and have them initial their cards. After completion, their bingo cards were entered into the drawing tubs. The lucky nine folks on the bingo cards were extremely busy meeting all those people; however, they not only did it, they did it well.

The main door prize was an iPad2, graciously provided by the Johnson City Bank, and to you folks at the bank, you should have been able to feel the ground shaking when the attendees applauded your awesome donation. We all thank you for making our mixer so special. Martha Gosnell from Gosnell Global Solutions in Blanco also thanks you, as she was the proud recipient of the iPad2, and ecstatic she was. She was so excited she managed to make me forget the slight disappointment I felt at not being eligible for the prizes. There’s nothing better than being around happy people, and there was a huge dose of that at the mixer, that’s for sure.

There were winners of nine other prizes as well. The winners were as follows: Chris Perrenoud – a bottle of Merlot from HEB Plus Bulverde; Patrick McLead – $50 Gift Certificate for Heart of Texas Hill Country Services; Paul Rountree – a bottle of Chardonnay from HEB Plus Bulverde; Maureen Bester – Rock Box Theater tickets; Seth Sidram – Lavender Loft Retreat Gift Certificate; Jeanette Fishbeck – a $50 gift certificate from Pecan Street Brewing; Josh Gissel – portable DVD player from Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union; Cheryl Pratt – complimentary Blanco Chamber membership; Bruce Huguelet – complimentary Johnson City Chamber membership. Congratulations to all the winners and our sincere thanks to all our generous donors.

We’d also like to express our appreciation for our sponsors, Silver K Café and Redbud Café, who provided scrumptious offerings that were literally eaten up by the time the mixer was over, Becker Vineyards, Real Ale Brewery and our host and hostess, Paul and Judy Rountree, proprietors of the Miller Creek RV Resort, who were without a doubt the finest hosts you could ask for - our hats off to you both. Penny and I would also like to thank the two fabulous photographers that took pictures for us, Glynn and Dave. And, last but not least, we’d like to thank Pastor Lee Romero from the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City who provided his support by accepting the position of “Special Official Picker” for the iPad2 – job well done, sir!

For all of you folks who missed the mixer, you might not want to miss the next one – it’s the perfect time to meet folks and promote your business in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The worst that can happen – you might make a new friend or two or three, and win a fabulous door prize to top off your evening. We appreciate the opportunity to support, promote, and refer our chamber members.
