Dear Editor,

Many exciting things are happening in this corner of the world that we call home, Blanco, TX. We continue to see new business growth arriving in town, new “faces” of people choosing to come to Blanco and raise their families. An exciting new project will be getting under way soon as renovations and new classrooms will be added to the old Blanco school building, bringing back the delightful sounds of children walking the halls that so many did before.

Change is never easy and our city officials have the difficult task of carefully planning for the next five to ten years. They are faced with tough decisions to make and not all will agree with these decisions, but we have seen time and again how the citizens of Blanco have rallied together, and raised their voices to the state leaders, letting them know how vital it was that our state park remain open to the public.

Our local public library also serves the citizens of our town by providing a setting that is clean, comfortable, professional, and filled with friendly faces of volunteers of all ages who simply want to share the joy of sitting and reading a book! Many people do not realize all the numerous programs offered by our library until they walk through the doors and experience it for themselves.

The programs offered by the library are vast, ranging from computer services being available to the public to the Oral History Project in which many of our older citizens are interviewed about their past here in Blanco, a DVD is produced, then put on the library shelf to be checked out and viewed. Veterans of our armed services are also being interviewed and their personal time spent in the military is being preserved.

As the city officials face numerous important and difficult decisions that lay ahead, I urge each of you to think hard before any additional funding to our public library is cut. Take some time and visit the library, walk through and see our citizens as they enjoy our library, and be sure to “thank” the huge volunteer force working each day with a pleasant smile on their face. Our library is one of Blanco’s finest treasures and deserves every bit of help it can get.
