Janette Odiorne Hoppe of Johnson City, Texas, was born May 12, 1935, in Johnson City, Texas, and passed away on August 30, 2011. She grew up on the family ranch in Johnson City and in high school met her future husband. Janette and Dwayne were married on April 9, 1954, in the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City where she remained active throughout her life. Some her most memorable activities were teaching Sunday school class, helping with Bible school and providing food for the many church events. Later in life she enjoyed attending Sunday school and was very involved in the Emmaus community. She loved her church and cherished the fact that many of her happiest moments occurred there; she was married there, she christened her children there along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also thrilled about the new renovations being made.
Janette began her work career at the Blanco County Clerks Office and later worked at the Johnson City Post Office. Her next employment was with the Johnson City Bank where she worked thirty-five wonderful years and retired. She made many life-long friends and enjoyed interacting with all of her customers.
She was a member of the Garden Club as well as the Woman’s Civic Club. Janette enjoyed these clubs very much and was elected President of the Woman’s club.
Hoppe’s Guest House was one of her greatest accomplishments. Janette enjoyed baking and preparing for the guests arrival. It was so special to her that she had many return guests year after year.
Janette was preceded in death by her husband Dwayne Hoppe, her daughter Colette and her parents James and Sophie Odiorne. She is survived by her daughter Camille Hoppe Swift and husband Todd and brother Jim Odiorne and wife Kay. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Amber Coleman Fry and husband Tommy; Brooke Coleman White and husband Casey; and Brittni Coleman and fiancé Clayton Young; as well as great-grandchildren Truett Hayden Fry, Taryn Marie Fry and Harper Hoppe White.
