9/11 Tribute is on the Screen
Wednesday, September 7, 2011 • Posted September 16, 2011

A Blanco County tribute to the heroes of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center ten years ago will come Monday night, when the documentary film, "9/11", is presented free at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.

A video crew was with the firefighters that morning, completing a documentary on a rookie's training and first assignment: the station serving the twin towers. When the firefighters responded, the camera crew rode with them; when they went in, so did the camera; when they had to scramble for their lives, the crew was right behind.

What you'll see is what they did, as they did it, un-staged and un-recreated... the real deal. The danger is real, the drama is real, the fear is real. It is one of a kind, and a picture you won't forget.

Completing the "documentary night" is a preview of short documentaries on Haiti's recovery, a summer project by a group of UT students. The project producer was Amy Romero, daughter of Cathy and Lee Romero, pastor of First UMC, who will describe how they made their "mini-docs" and the trials of living and working in Haiti for an extended time.

The 7:00pm movie is free and open to anyone who shows up. Popcorn and other refreshments are free, too.
