Barbara Jane and Gerald Dowdy just received word their son Thomas, who is an official with the Bastrop school system and serves on the Bastrop County emergency management board, had officials confirm that his home, as well as all of his neighbor’s, had been destroyed by the Bastrop fires. Thomas, who serves as music director at a couple of Sunday church services, was not at home but was called by the school around noon to come help set up relief efforts. He attempted to enter his property but was turned back by authorities. The big losses, besides the house, was a fine piano and 40 year collection of sheet music, and a roller player organ that was over 100 years old and was given to him by the late Jim and Evelyn Williams of Blanco for his more than a decade of service to the music department of the Blanco Methodist Church. Thomas says he and his neighbors are fine. He has transportation and a place to stay and is pleased that there were no known major injuries or deaths in such massive destruction.
