Waiting On God

Psalm 27:14 “14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

We had a great service today at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. Lady Linda Wade was our guest preacher, and she gave an inspiring message from the book of Ruth. Our Redeemer is Jesus Christ, and He taught us about His Father, His Spirit, and His Kingdom, and He will deliver us and He will heal us; but there is a time of waiting. I believe the waiting period is our testing ground to prove to God that we do trust Him, no matter how long it takes (even 25 years, like it took for Abraham and Sara to have their promised child). She reminded us that we should not take matters into our own hands, but should wait on God, and not be like Sara who didn’t wait! I’d like to share with you some benefits of waiting on God.

1. Salvation (Genesis 49:18 and Psalm 62:1) Salvation means “Deliverance from sin and its consequences.”

Psalm 62:1 “1Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.”

2. Daily necessities (Psalm 104:27-28 and Psalm 145:14-15)

Psalm 145:14-21 “14The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. 15The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. 17The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. 18The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. 19He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. 20The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. 21My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.”

3. Instruction (Psalm 25:4-5 and Psalm 106:13)

Psalm 25:4-5 “4Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”

4. Answers to prayer (Psalm 25:21 and Psalm 40:1-3)

Psalm 40:1-4 “1I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. 4Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”

5. Courage (Psalm 27:14 and Psalm 31:24)

Psalm 27:14 “14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

6. Protection and help (Psalm 33:18-22)

7. Inheritance (Psalm 37:7-9 and 34)

8. Hope (Psalm 130:5-6)

9. Justice (Isaiah 26:8-9 and Isaiah 30:18)

10. Renewed strength (Isaiah 40:31)

11. Blessings (Isaiah 30:18; and Isaiah 64:4)

Isaiah 30:18 “18And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.”

How ‘bout that! God even waits on us so He can be “gracious” to us, just for waiting on Him! He rewards us for waiting and trusting in Him! It exalts Him when we wait on Him because it allows Him to “have mercy” upon us! We shall be blessed if we do wait on Him!

12. Boldness (Isaiah 49:23)

13. Goodness of God (Lamentations 3:25)

14. Holy Spirit power (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8)

It’s much better to wait on God than try to handle a situation ourselves. But sometimes we forget that He has plans for us.

It is written in Jeremiah 29:11-13 “11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. 12Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. 13Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” AMP
