To the Editor,

Regarding my letter last week, I had quite a bit of feedback. People called, stopped me on the street, and came by my shop to speak to me about it. I also spoke to a lot of people when I took the petitions around town. The overwhelming consensus was that people and businesses just want to be left alone. No more laws, ordinances, etc. Bottom line: no more rules. We get enough from Washington.

People like Blanco the way it is. The sign ordinance is way too invasive of people’s rights concerning their own properties. It regulates how many ,what size, and what kind of flags you can fly at your home and business, political and other. What is a political flag? The US Stars and Stripes? The Texas Lone Star? Blanco’s Panther flag? Why does someone else have any say over my flying flags at my home or business? The ordinance regulates how many and what size signs, posters, and flyers a business can put in their windows. It requires you to get a permit and stickers for your garage sales. It limits how many “big events” you can have at your house. What exactly is a big event? Who gets to decide? Why is it anybody’s business on the city council? These are ridiculous.

There are more regulations in the sign ordinance; please look it up and read it. If you feel as I do, please attend the city council meeting or sign one of the petitions; they are in many of the businesses around town.

Thank you,

Penny Conn
