Fall Baseball Off to Exciting Start
Wednesday, October 5, 2011 • Posted October 7, 2011

The Dripping Springs Fall Baseball league is underway. For the Blanco Mighty Blue Under 12 team, it is off to an exciting start, with a record of 3-0.

On Saturday the 1st, the team traveled to Lake Travis to take on the Yankees. Will Granberg nailed the first pitch of the game for a double and scored the team’s first run of the game. The hits did not stop there; Mighty Blue kept the runs coming in. Luis Elizando cranked the ball out to the center fence for a stand up double and Cade Smith with a triple. Wade Robinson hit a nice line drive, getting to first and bringing in Smith for the run. All of the kids got on base and had several RBIs.

With the Mighty Blue defense of Smith (pitcher), Tristan Lopez (center), Vandyke (first, pitcher), Robinson (second), Ty Preiss (short stop), Griffin Wearden, Granberg (third), and the incredible outfield of Emily Biggs (left field), Elizando/Wearden (center), and Paco Vargas (right field, second), the Yankees did not stand a chance. Smith allowed only three runs and had several strike-outs. Peyton Vandyke had an incredible double-play at first and Paco Vargas at second scooped up a grounder and threw to Tristan Lopez to stop a runner from scoring. At the top of third, Van Dyke came in as pitcher and held the Yankees to five with many strike-outs. Griffin Wearden at center made a fabulous throw to Granberg at third to stop a triple and nothing got by Preiss at short stop.

In the fifth and final inning of the game, Emily Biggs scored the 11th run with an impressive slide into home. The final score was Mighty Blue 11—Yankees 5. Coaches Rodney Preiss and Cruz Lopez are very impressed with the team and the kids are having fun and learning so much. This league allows the kids to lead off and steal and this is new to many of the players. Looking forward to a great season!
