John Watson, Blanco volunteer, supervises the sunscope at the October 15 Blanco Market Days. Equipped with a special filter that enables observation of the sun without damage to the eyes, visitors were able to see sun spots, giant electromagnetic storms on the surface of the sun.

The observation station was sponsored by Blanco State Park to promote the upcoming Stars in the Park event starting at 5:30pm on Saturday, November 19. Except for the normal park entrance fee, the event will be free of charge and promises to be an out-of-this-world, awe-inspiring experience with several telescopes, laser sky pointers, and knowledgeable volunteers from the Austin Astronomical Society to explain it all.
