The JV football team posted a strong win over the Marion Bulldogs on Thursday, October 13.

Aikman Elrod set the pace for the Panthers with a 45-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. QB McKay Adamson hit Carson Kipp in the end zone for the 2-point conversion, putting the Panthers up 8-0. On the ensuing kick-off, Dru Ramirez stopped Marion with a hard tackle, but Marion managed to get the touchdown within the next few plays. Their 2-point conversion pass attempt was intercepted by Kipp. The 1st quarter ended with Blanco leading 8-6.

In the second quarter, the Blanco offense rolled on runs by Adamson, Kipp, Elrod, and Cove Chick. The Marion defense tightened and held Blanco on a 4th down attempt. On offense, the Bulldogs then completed a 25-yard pass, but after a hard hit by a Panther, Phil Alvarado recovered the fumble on the 20-yard line. The Marion defense forced Blanco to punt and the Bulldogs scored a touchdown on their offensive series. On the 2-point conversion pass attempt, Blanco defender Chris Castillo knocked the pass down. Marion led 8-12 at the half.

The second half opened with good defensive plays by Brandon Bankston, Michael Gonzales, Brian Brecka, Andrew Burgess, and Phil Alvarado. On a tackle by Hunter Goodman and Carson Kipp, Marion dropped the ball and Elrod recovered the fumble. Back on offense, Elrod burst down the sideline for a 50-yard run. Kipp then carried the ball for 10 yards and then another 5 for the 5-yard touchdown run. Kipp also made the 2-point conversion. At the end of the third quarter, Blanco forced the Bulldogs to punt and took control on offense. Elrod bolted 20 yards for a touchdown and Adamson ran in for the 2-point conversion.

With Marion on the move, the Panther defense got tough, forcing the Bulldogs to turn over on downs on the 17-yard line. The Bulldogs held the Panthers and Elrod booted a 40-yard punt for Blanco. With 2:54 remaining in the game, Colton Elrod picked up 15 yards on a run. Then, Cove Chick burst 25 yards to the end zone for another 6 points. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. As time expired, Marion returned the kick-off for a touchdown and the 2-point conversion was good. Blanco held on for the 30-20 win.

The JV will travel to Comfort on October 20; kickoff is set for 6pm.
