Driver’s License Office Closed
Wednesday, October 26, 2011 • Posted October 27, 2011

Blanco County residents who need to visit the driver’s license office will have to go outside the county. The office closed in February when the offices in the old annex made the move to the new building.

“This office has closed due to problems resulting from an aging driver license system,” the Texas Department of Public Safety website explains. “We appreciate your patience during this time and apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter as a result of this closing.” The notice tells visitors to choose an office in a nearby county.

The next closest offices are in Gillespie and Burnet counties.

The Gillespie County office is located at 125 W. Main St. (Room L30 in the county courthouse) in Fredericksburg. Their phone number is 830-997-1932. That office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, closing for lunch from noon to 1pm. The office is closed on Tuesdays to conduct pre-scheduled driving tests.

The Burnet County office is located at 1701 E. Polk Street in Burnet, in the county courthouse annex. Their phone number is 512-756-5405. The office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 5pm with lunch from noon to 1pm.

The state also offers many driver’s license services online at www.txdmv.gov. Vehicle registration can still be done in person at the county tax office inside the county annex on the Johnson City courthouse square.
