Blanco Veteran’s Day Weekend Events to Offer Remembrance, Fun

Three organizations in Blanco are hosting a weekend of remembrance and fun in commemoration of Veteran’s Day.

Blanco Pioneer Museum will be hosting a barbecue dinner on Friday, November 11, at the museum at 418 Pecan St, from 6pm to 8pm. Following the dinner will be a live auction and dance from 8pm until 11pm. For more information, call 830-833-5774.

The festivities continue on the square on Saturday morning, November 12, with the Veteran’s Parade and chili and bean fundraiser dinner hosted by the American Legion Post 352. The Blanco Historic Cemetery will host a Veteran’s Day event at the cemetery grounds located at the corner of Chandler and Callahan streets starting at 1pm on that Saturday. The Highland Lakes Color Guard will perform the posting of colors and a Tolling of the Bells will be held for veterans laid to rest in the cemetery. 347 names will be read, beginning with John Asa McCrocklin and Michael Hill, both Indian fighters, and progressing through all the wars and conflicts.
