7th Grade Loses to Lago

On October 27, the 7th grade Panthers fought the Lago Vista Vikings in a close, high-scoring game.

The Vikings scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion run in the first minute of the game to set the pace for the match-up. Lago then kicked an on-side kick to take possession on the 40 yard line. The Vikings again scored and took a 0-16 lead.

The Panthers finally took control on offense after an 18-yard kickoff return to the Blanco 48 by Kailen Webster. Kameron Martinez burst through the line for a 52-yard touchdown run followed by a 2-point conversion run. Blanco closed the gap 8-16.

Lago scored another touchdown, but Blanco stopped the 2-point run attempt, leaving the score 8-22 with 5:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Blanco set up another scoring drive with runs by Martinez and Sebastian Thomas; quarterback Garrett Seales hit Thomas with a pass on the 12 yard line for the touchdown, but the 2-point conversion attempy failed, leaving the Panthers down 14-22.

The Vikings returned the kickoff to the Blanco 16-yard line and then scored another touchdown and 2-point conversion.

Blanco was stopped on their next offensive series, Lago took over on downs and drove in for the score. The teams went to half-time with Blanco trailing 14-38.

The second half began with Webster returning the Viking kickoff 25 yards to the Blanco 48. Martinez scored the touchdown on an 8-yard carry and the 2-point conversion to close the gap to 22-38.

Blanco forced Lago to punt and the offense moved the ball down field. Martinez scored another TD run and 2-point conversion, bringing the score to 30-38.

Lago scored on their next possession, but failed on the 2-point attempt. Blanco also scored again; with 30 seconds left in the game, Seales tossed a pass to Logan Parker for a 35-yard gain to the 3. Seales then hit Parker in the end zone for the TD. Martinez added the 2-point conversion. Time expired, leaving the final score at Blanco 38, Lago Vista 44.

Jacob Mangold and Noah Wheeler made outstanding tackles in the Vikings backfield. Other tackles were made by Randall Jones, Jacob Ruiz, Jacob Fuller, Luis Elizondo, Jeremy Kindla, Shawn Burton, and Kendall Hartmann.
