Take a Tour of the Night Sky
Wednesday, November 9, 2011 • Posted November 10, 2011

Have you ever wondered about the stars in the sky? Orion, Taurus, Canis Major and Minor? Your chance to find out what’s going on in our sky is coming up.

Residents, visitors, the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, Blanco State Park, and the Hill Country Astronomical Society will be coming together on the evening of November 19 for a tour of the night skies.

The event will show people that they don’t have to have a math degree to enjoy looking at neat things, coordinator John Watson explains. You don’t need to know anything; the astronomers will point out things, he adds. It’s a way to learn all sorts of stuff.

The party begins at 5:30pm on Saturday, November 19, at the pavilion in Blanco State Park. Admission is the cost of entry into the state park – $4 per adult, kids 12 and under free. Be sure to switch your headlights off when approaching the viewing area – it takes the human eye at least 30 minutes to acclimate to darkness. Bring flashlights wrapped in red cellophane to help you get around without ruining your night vision.

For more information about Stars in the Park, call the Chamber at 830-833-5101.
