Mysterious Explosion Thunders Across Town
Wednesday, November 9, 2011 • Posted November 10, 2011

Many people in town heard an unexplained explosion on Friday night. The sound was heard from Blanco State Park in the south to Garden Oaks in the north.

Blanco PD officers, deputies, and a state park ranger immediately searched the area for the source, including the high school, state park, and River Run, and were unable to locate anything. The park ranger and park host had also seen a flash accompanying the explosion.

Blanco Police Chief Milton Willmann reported that officers, in talking to residents in the area, narrowed down the location to west of Mesquite St. and south of RR1623/4th St. A witness on Felps Lane said that it was even farther south, Willmann reported.

The chief checked the area in the daylight on Monday morning and didn’t find any sign of an explosion, such as burned grass.
