The JV team was firing on all cylinders last Thursday night, smashing the Luling Eagles to claim the district crown.
Blanco received the opening kick-off and wasted no time in scoring with QB McKay Adamson calling his own number on a 43-yard TD run. Carson Kipp caught the PA, putting Blanco up 8-0. Adamson then recovered a fumble on Luling’s first possession at the 41 yard line. A 10 yard pass to Aikman Elrod, followed by a 20 yard run by Cove Chick, was capped off by an 11-yard TD run by Kipp, who also caught the PA, giving Blanco an early 16-0 lead. Luling responded with a TD pass, cutting the lead to 16-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Blanco fumbled on the next series, but forced a Luling punt on a 3 and out. Logan Dodd returned the punt 37 yards, and QB Adamson hit Andrew Burgess for a 14-yard TD pass. Cove Chick caught the PA, putting the Panthers up 24-6. Luling responded with a 70-yard TD pass, cutting the lead to 24-12. Luling then intercepted the Panthers, but a fumble recovery by Brian Brecka set Blanco back up at the 7 yard line. QB Adamson hit Kipp on a 7-yard TD pass, giving Blanco a 30-12 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Blanco forced a turnover on downs and Aikman Elrod dashed 56 yards for another score, increasing the Panther lead to 36-12. But Luling responded with another 70+ yard pass play, and with a good conversion cut the lead to 36-20. The Eagles then held Blanco on downs, getting possession at their 35 yard line. Luling attempted a fake punt to keep their drive alive, but Colton Elrod deflected the pass attempt. Andrew Burgess then took over for the Panthers, first catching a 14-yard pass from QB Adamson, then making a great catch between two defenders for a 16-yard TD reception, putting Blanco up 42-20.
The Eagles were intercepted on their next series by Alex Juarez, who returned it 20 yards across midfield. Colton Elrod dashed 24 yards, followed by a Chris Castillo 15-yard run, and Blanco scored again on a 12-yard TD run by Colton Elrod. The excitement wasn’t over, as Luling returned the kick-off for a TD, but Andrew Burgess sacked the QB on the PA attempt, leaving the score at 48-26. Luling attempted an onsides kick, but Dylan Bates recovered for the Panthers, and Blanco ran out the clock from there.
Brian Brecka had a monster game at defensive end, recording numerous tackles, a fumble recovery, and QB sack. Dylan Bates and Colton Elrod were outstanding at LB play, with Grant Calzoncit, Hunter Goodman, and Andrew Burgess performing exceptionally well. Chris Castillo and Brandon Bankston also had excellent plays. The JV squad finished the year at 7-2-1, and 1st place in district. Thank you, coaches and players, for an excellent season and an exciting future to look forward to.
