Tejas Art Club Artist of the Month

My name is Patricia Hendricks. I was born in Roseburg, Oregon, and grew up in the country riding horses and spending time with family and friends. My artistic efforts emerged after I was grown and married and my four children were mostly grown and gone. Twenty-five years before we moved to Blanco, my husband and I, along with our youngest daughter Paula, traveled around the country in a motorhome. We had sold our business in Medford, Oregon, and we wanted to travel and see the U.S. As my husband perfected his chainsaw wood-carving techniques at county fairs and local businesses, I found the landscape of the southwest to be the perfect backdrop for inspiration. I began to paint with watercolors, but my technique was lacking and I eventually quit.

After we moved to Blanco, I was busy with our new home and raising miniature horses. But when the new Blanco County Senior Center opened in 2010, I found out about the painting classes and started to go. From day one Olga had us painting and I was learning the techniques which allowed me to bloom as an artist. I have been a member of the Tejas Art Club for a while now, and encourage anyone who always wanted to paint, to come and try a class. Call Olga at 830-833-1966 to begin a new life of art and great friends. Your inner artist may be ready to surprise you!
