The Greatest Commandment
Wednesday, November 23, 2011 • Posted November 23, 2011

Matthew 22:37-38 “37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Do you love God? One might ask, “How can you love someone you’ve never met?” Or “How can you love someone you’ve never seen?” And “How do we get to know Him?” The only answer is through His Word; His living Word. His Word is living waters; it’s alive. John wrote “1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;” 1 John 1:1

When we receive Christ into our hearts, His Spirit comes to dwell in us, and then He gives us enlightenment of His Word which we cannot have without His Spirit. When we read the bible without Holy Spirit discernment, our understanding is merely academic. When we read God’s Word with Holy Spirit enlightenment, His Spirit explains it to us in our hearts, and we have that knowing in us, that no one can take away, and sometimes it’s too much to explain it to others who don’t have God’s Spirit in them, for when we try, they think we’re nuts.

When we read God’s Word with Holy Spirit enlightenment we can feel how much He loves us, and we know it, and because of His great love for us, we fall in love with Him! John said “We love Him, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

He encourages us with things only He could know we like. I proudly confess God has kept me by being with me, and guiding, teaching, admonishing, healing, comforting, feeding, leading and loving me. How good is He? He’s awesome! He’s wonderful! He’s all knowing and all powerful! He’s so awesomely creative! He’s knows everything! His imagination is limitless! He’s astounding! He’s everything for me, and wants to be everything for you, too. I hope you know Him. If you don’t, please read this little bit about Him:

Psalm 84:11 -12 “11For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

Psalm 85:8-13 “8I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

9Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

10Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

13Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.”

Rom. 11:33 “33O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”

John 3:16 “16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Exodus 15:11 “11Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?”

1 Peter 1:16-21 “16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”

Psalm 86:11-13 “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”
