After a Long Drought, Experts Predict a Colorful Spring for the Texas Hill Country
Wednesday, December 21, 2011 • Posted December 22, 2011

John R. Thomas, CEO of the largest working wildflower farm in the world, says the recent showers and mild weather have aided bluebonnets and other wildflowers to germinate in November, plenty of time to develop into large hardy plants for a colorful Spring Show.

“Despite the drought, there will be wildflowers in the Texas Hill Country this spring,” predicted Mr. Thomas, who pioneered the commercial production of wildflower seeds and is considered one of the world’s foremost experts. “There are plenty of baby bluebonnets out there,” he added.

Ryan Thomas, General Manager and Systems Administrator of Wildseed Farms, added: “The silver lining is the lack of competitive vegetation due to the drought. It is hard to imagine, but we are set up for an above-average Spring for a Wildflower Show!”

Wildseed Farms LLC, founded in 1983 by John R. Thomas, a fourth-generation farmer and agricultural innovator, is the largest, family-owned working wildflower farm in the world. More than 350,000 people a year stop by the Center. Wildseed Farms Market Center is located seven miles east of Fredericksburg, TX on US Highway 290 and is open daily from 9:30am to 5:00pm CST. A catalog of Wildflower Seeds for sale is available at no charge by visiting the farm, calling 1-800-848-0078, or visiting our website at www.wildseedfarms.com.
