Happy New Year! What’s Your Resolution?
Wednesday, January 4, 2012 • Posted January 5, 2012

It’s that time of year again – when we pin up a new calendar to the wall and think about (hopefully lasting) goals, projects, and changes we all plan to make.

What's your New Year's resolution? We asked various members of the community about what they’re planning.

We hope to visit Alaska in 2012... a dream of ours for 28 years! — Margo Davis, Anders Realty

TRYING to make a habit of “not sweating the small stuff” and remembering that I don’t have to be perfect; the world won’t come to an end. (Both will be tough, so I’m not promising. All I can do is try) — Candy Cargill, Hill Country Real Estate

1. Pray for peace—in my life and in the world. 2. Make an actual prayer list of people who need it—not just say I’ll pray for them. 3. Get more involved with Blanco activities—it is our town, even though we live out of town. — Priscilla Seals

My New Year’s resolution is to stick to the organizational chart I created for my time! “Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”” Matthew 19:26 — Patty Coffee

To persist without exception! To clean our barn out and learn to crochet. — Jayne Lightfoot, RE/MAX Genesis

De-clutter! And read more. — Liz Waller-Broyal, On The Square

Valuing and appreciating the magnificence and wonder of the night sky, I resolve to do my part in continuing night sky preservation efforts and in seeking common sense solutions to light pollution issues throughout the Hill Country. — Wayne Gosnell

I resolve to do my part to keep Blanco litter free. — Martha Gosnell

As I drove south on 165 and over the divide on New Year’s day, as always, I was awestruck by the view. I will continue to work for the preservation and conservation of Blanco’s wild places and wildlife. My Blanco. Best town in the world. — Pamela Prescott Capps

New Year’s resolutions? I gave up those years ago! (Always one in the bunch, right?) As for projects, this year I’m writing my third book, Window on a Texas Wildscape for Texas A&M Press. — Sheryl Smith-Rodgers

1. Continue to provide meaningful, community enriching services in recreation and education that improve the quality of life for the people of Blanco County and surrounding areas. 2. Maintain and nurture professional relationships between the National Park Service and other agencies, organizations and individuals that support conservation of our heritage and natural resources. 3. Give as much as I can, professionally and personally; financially and in-time to the betterment of our communities. — Russ Whitlock, LBJ National Historical Park

I only have one I would tell... to catch up with technology!!! — Diana Schwind

Grow the business. Help others more. Tell and show my wife, more often, that I love her. — Fred Looney

Two of the Blanco Historic Cemetery goals are to continue to review, correct, and update records of people buried in the Blanco Cemetery and to create a membership list with addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail, etc. for better communication about the cemetery. Another goal is to create a website for the Blanco Historic Cemetery. We appreciate the involvement of our membership and hope that they will be active in any projects that we undertake. — Gail McClellan, President, Blanco Historic Cemetery

After the severe drought my resolution is to use plants in my gardens that are more tolerant to dry conditions. I want to spend less time watering this year. — Armando Pena

Work out during the winter. Stay focused and get organized. Collect rainwater. Laugh. — Becky Greathouse

During my travels I have taken thousands of photographs in the form of color slides. They cover scenes from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and include pictures of my children growing up. This year I hope to digitize all my photos before the ravages of time take their toll on the film and leave my posterity without these precious memories. — Keith McClellan

Our family motto for the year 2012: “Learn to delve in 2012.” I plan to delve into the deeper things of God, our family ties, and ways to help myself and every life touched by mine to grow more healthy; body, soul, and spirit. — Maryella Vause

I love my wine, but am not drinking any UNTIL I lose 20 pounds – and that’s going to be hard! — unnamed Uptown Blanco Art Center employee
