Dear Editor,

The night after Thanksgiving our family made a special memory. We attended the lighting ceremony at the Old Blanco Courthouse. It was so special to us, as we just moved here from San Antonio in September. We invited my extended family to be with us from Fort Worth to visit us in our new hometown. I mentioned to them that I had heard there would be a lighting of the old courthouse on the square and that we all needed to go and see the night after Thanksgiving. I had also been invited to join in caroling on the steps of the courthouse, so I was anticipating this whole new experience that you just don’t get to have in a large city.

It was such a perfect night; the Christmas caroling, the community all gathered around, and then the lighting of the Old Courthouse! And then to top it off I looked up to see Mr. and Mrs. Claus waving to all the families from the second story window of the courthouse! I felt like I was in one of those picture perfect holiday movies. If that wasn’t enough, then we all lined up to go meet Santa and have cookies and punch. Oh my! I was in heaven in my new little town of Blanco. I’m still talking about it to all my city friends, making them wish they had been here. In fact, next year I believe I will be having more company the day after Thanksgiving, and do this again!
