The Varsity Lady Panthers took on the Sonora Broncos in Sonora for their first district game.
The Panthers made a quick move in the first period to take the lead and stepped out in front of the Broncos with a score of 12-2.
By half time, the Lady Panthers had sunk another 14 points, giving them a total of 26. Sonora also managed to sink 14 points, but they only had 16 points at the half.
After a few minutes to catch their breath and replenish their fluids, the Lady Panthers were ready to hit the floor running. The Panthers sank another 14 points in the third period while holding strong on defense and holding the Broncos to only 12 points, ending the third period with a score 40-28.
Although the Lady Panthers seemed just a little tired, they still managed to hold onto the lead and take the first victory of the district play with a final score 47-39.
High scorer was Sarah Kocurek who sank five two-point shot, two three-point shots and was one for two at the line for a total of 17 points.
Alisa Guler sank 10 points by putting in four two-point shots and two of seven at the line.
Sarah Isenberg sank nine points followed by Madeline Walker who had six points. Lacee Hunter finished the game with three points followed by Crystal Thomas who had two points.
The Lady Panthers had a change up and traveled to Mason on Tuesday, January 8 to face the Cowgirls. Mason will be in Blanco on January 25.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Comfort to face the Deer on Friday, January 11.
