Panthers and Eagles Clash in Overtime

The Panthers started 2012 with two back-to-back wins. On Tuesday, January 3, the varsity ripped the Austin Royals, 70-51, however on Friday, January 6, the Panthers won a close game in overtime against the Johnson City Eagles, 48-46.

Against the Royals, Kyle Sauceda burned the nets for 23 points to lead the Panthers. Sam Isenberg scored 16, with Ian Ray adding 13. David Ramirez shot for nine points, while Colton Childress made four, Brett Champion had three, and Tanner Rogers added two. Rogers led the team with ten rebounds, 11 assists, and four steals. Sauceda grabbed nine rebounds, Ray had eight rebounds and three steals, and Isenberg had five assists and hit 2 for 2 on three-point shots. As a team, the Panthers made an outstanding 24 assists on 31 field goals.

The JV boys also posted a strong win over the Royals, 68-35. Carlin Green scorched the nets, scoring 14 points, followed by Colton Elrod with 13. Josh McCaslin and Chad Marshall each scored ten, while Gilbert Rodarte shot seven points, and Jubal Elrod, Chandler Stewart, and Logan Dodd added four each. Will Byler added two points.

On January 6, the Panthers and Eagles fought four close quarters, ending regulation at 38-38. In overtime, the Panthers won 48-46. Sauceda led the Panthers with 12 points, followed by Isenberg with ten. Ray shot for nine, Rogers added five, and Childress scored four points. Sauceda and Ray led led the Panthers in rebounds with ten each. Rogers made six assists and Isenberg made three. Ray swiped down three blocks, while Isenberg snagged six steals, and Rogers and Ray had three.

The Blanco freshmen outscored The Johnson City JV, 45-21. Ty Royce scored 14 points to pace the Panthers. Devlin Moore sank nine points and Robbie Arlitt and Dylan Bates scored six each. Other scorers were Alfredo Amezquita with four points and Dylan Tesch, Diego Alegria, and Grant Calzoncit with two.

The Panthers played Mason on Tuesday, after press time, and will next head to Comfort on Friday to begin district play.
