Blanco FFA Hosts 15th Annual Chapter Livestock Show

The local Blanco FFA Chapter hosted the 15th Annual Blanco FFA Chapter Livestock Show on January 6 and 7. With more than 150 animals exhibited, this proved to be one of the largest shows to date.

On Friday, the show began with the lambs, where senior Alex Gustafson won Grand Champion honors with her Champion Medium Wool. Jr. FFA member Dalton Savanich took home Reserve Grand Champion with his Reserve Champion Medium Wool. Other breed and reserve breed champions included: Tyler Hardin – Champion Southdown and Champion Cross, Logan Parker – Champion Fine Wool, Ryan Edwards – Reserve Champion Southdown and Trevor Hardin – Reserve Champion Fine Wool and Reserve Champion Cross. The Champion Showmanship buckle went to Tyler Hardin, while Kinidi Moore was named Reserve Champion Showman.

Following the lamb show, Tyler Hardin was named Grand Champion of the goat show with his Class 3 winner. Reserve Grand Champion Goat went to Jr. FFA member Alli West with her Class 4 Champion. Other class champions included: Abbie Culton – Class 1, Maggie Reininger – Class 2 and Tyler Hardin – Class 5. Reserve class champions included: Cade Felps – Class 1, William Hourigan – Class 2, Kali Kimbro – Class 3, Ryan Edwards – Class 4 and Austin Andrews – Class 5. Showmanship winners were: Ryan Edwards – Champion and Kali Kimbro – Reserve Champion.

Saturday morning began with the steer show and James Leachman winning Grand Champion honors with his Champion European. Jr. FFA member Brenna Wallace was then selected Reserve Grand Champion with her Reserve Champion European. Other champion and reserve champions went to: Kolby Marek – Champion American, Asher Haack – Reserve Champion American, Kelton Marek – Champion British and Katherine Biggs – Reserve Champion British. Champion Showmanship went to Carlin Green, while Kelton Marek was selected Reserve Champion Showman.

Finally, the day, and the show, came to a close with the hog show. Senior Trevor Hardin was the big winner, exhibiting the Grand Champion with his Champion Duroc. Jr. FFA member Kelton Marek was then selected Reserve Grand Champion with his Champion Dark Cross. Other breed and reserve breed champions included: Reilly Burnett – Reserve Duroc, Kinidi Moore – Champion Hampshire, Austin Van Pelt – Reserve Hampshire, Ty Preiss – Champion Yorkshire and Reserve Dark OPB, Hanna Garrett – Champion Light Cross and Reserve Yorkshire, Erica Flores – Champion Dark OPB, Lainie Parker – Champion Light OPB, Jacob Robinson – Reserve Light OPB, Layne Lassberg – Reserve Dark Cross and Kolby Marek – Reserve Light OPB. In concluding the show, Hanna Garrett won Champion Hog Showmanship, while Carly Haack won the Reserve Champion buckle.

All of these exhibitors, plus many more, will now begin preparations for the upcoming county, district and major livestock shows over the next three months.
