Girls Basketball Splits District Games

The Blanco varsity girls’ team had a cold shooting, losing 35-45 to the Junction Eagles on January 10. It seemed as though the Panthers were saving the points for the trip to Comfort on January 13, where the out-scored the Deer, 77-59.

In the loss to the Eagles, Lindsey Jenkins and Leslie McClinton led the team with 8 points each. Micaela Klein scored 7 and Felicia Skillman added 6. Against the Deer, Justine Cooley was on fire, sinking 18 points to pace the Panthers. McClinton ripped the nets with 16 points, followed by Micaela Klein and Kayla Martinez with 12 points each, and Jenkins with 10.

The JV girls posted a 34-18 win over Junction and a took another win over Comfort with a final score of 23-14. Against Junction, Charlsey Smith blazed the hoops with 16 points, with Maria Avilia scoring 8, and Autumn Collins and Kari Graham sinking 4 points each. Avila led the JV over Comfort, scoring 7 points. Smith dropped in 5 and Abbie Culton added 4.

The Lady Panthers traveled to Harper on January 17, after press time, and have an open date for Friday, January 20. On the 24th, the girls will face Junction for a re-match at home.
