The Blanco High School UIL teams—the Speech and Debate team, and the Academic team—turned in superlative performances last week at meets in Burnet and Del Valle.

The Speech and Debate team won sweepstakes at Burnet, while the Academic team performed admirably at Class 5-A Del Valle.

“Our performance at this point in the practice season bodes well for UIL district, regional, and state contests,” said UIL academic coordinator Russell Kirkscey.

Social Studies and Current Events student Chris Barnett said, “The results of the competition really demonstrated all of the effort that we have put into preparing for our events.”

Gina Blankenburg, who sponsors Social Studies, Literary Criticism, and Current Issues, said, “I am proud of the students’ performances so early in the season. However, we still have much work to do before the district meet.”

The speech and academic teams next travel to Pflugerville Hendrickson and Wimberley on February 4.
