A Visit to the Doctor
Blanco Church of Christ
Wednesday, February 1, 2012 • Posted February 2, 2012

A patient was placed in front of eye reading chart and was told to cover his right eye and read the chart. He did so perfectly. The doctor said, "Now your left," and again he read perfectly. The doctor said, "Now both." The doctor’s instructions to read was met with silence. The doctor turned to see the man standing there with both eyes covered. They both laughed so hard they could barely finish the exam.

Jesus said, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners" (Mark 2:17). It seems that most would rather not go to the doctor. It takes time, money, and we just don't like being put through the examination process. Besides, we might find out something we would rather not know. When considered with wisdom, we understand it is in our best interest in the long run not only to go to the physician when something is wrong, but also for regular examinations, so that we might prevent serious problems from developing.

Spiritual problems that develop in us over a long period of time and eventually demonstrate themselves in a poor choice of words or bad behavior, could have been avoided altogether if we would have just made regular visits to the great physician. He recommends a great spiritual exercise program and a well balanced diet! Being spiritually out of shape and remaining ignorant of our true condition is a sad choice and one that leads to complications. His examination is perfect and His prescriptions on target.
