Dangerous intersection to get traffic light
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 • Posted January 6, 2009

“It was a very fruitful meeting,’ exclaimed Blanco Mayor Pro-Tem Ron Houston, describing the December 30 meeting with the Texas Department of Transportation at their area headquarters in Burnet.

Blanco Mayor Jim Rodrigue and City Secretary Bobbie Mowery also took part in the meeting that was called to discuss TXDOT’s plans for Blanco.

Howard L. Lyons, Area Engineer, and Scott R. Cunningham, a Traffic Engineer, hosted the meeting and brought smiles to the city officials when they announced plans for a traffic light at the intersection of US 281 and Blanco Avenue.

The intersection, located by Super S and Security State Bank, has been the site of some major collisions.

Engineer Cunningham explained the target date would probably be this fall.

“And that’s not all,” said Mayor Rodrigue, “they also are investigating a crossing light near the high school, reducing the speed limit during school hours, and keeping the present speed limit through the city and not increasing it fives miles per hour, as was a possibility.”

All three city officials agreed TXDOT combined the need for safe traffic flow with the need for Blanco motorists’ safety.
