City Sales Tax Comes to $2,594

January 3, 1969

The City of Blanco has received their portion of the City Sales and Use Tax collected during the period from July 1 through September 30, 1968, amounting to $2,594.15.

The gross collection reported was $2,779.39. Of this amount the State charges 2 per cent of the total amount collected as a bookkeeping fee, which was $55.59; they also retained 4.76 per cent in case of dispute, which amounted to $129.65. Last amount should eventually be paid to the City of Blanco.

Hill Country Artists host ‘how to’ demonstration

The “how-to” demonstration at Hill Country Artists’ January 9 meeting will be a floral painting featuring red geraniums, presented by May Frances Colson, an outstanding New Braunfels artist.

Colson will use a 16 x 20 gessoes canvas board, but artists may use canvas if they wish. She will be using a standard palette, with Grumbacher red.

Hill Country Artists meet the second Monday of each month at the Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of 7th and Main in Blanco. The demonstration begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues until 2:00 p.m. with a break for a sack lunch.

Guests and new members are always welcome. Yearly dues are only $6.00 and monthly fees for the demonstration are $4.00.

Hill Country Artists slate election meeting

The County - - The Hill Country Artists will meet Monday, January 8, at Little Blanco Inn at 10:30 a.m. for the annual business meeting and election of officers.

Local students gets Masters Degree

January 4, 1989

Vicky Lynn Coffee of Blanco was among the 164 candidates for master’s degrees who received diplomas in Southwest Texas State University’s Graduate School commencement ceremony Friday December 16 in Evans Auditorium.

Coffee received a master of education degree with a major in counseling and guidance. Degrees were conferred by Interim SWT Present Michael L. Abbott.

Panther Bees host tourney

January 5, 1979

Both boys and girls basketball teams from Blanco, LBJ. Medina and Bandera High Schools are scheduled to take part in the one-day Blanco “B” team tournament this Saturday.

Junior high teams from the same school systems are slated for a similar tournament at Johnson City the following week.

This Saturday’s schedule opens with Johnson City – Blanco Girls at 9:00 a.m., JC – Blanco Boys at 10:30 a.m., Medina – Bandera Girls at noon and boys at 1:30 p.m.

Consolation games will be played at 3:00 p.m. (girls) and 4:30 p.m., championships at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
