I’ve learned to trust in God and His Word, and all His promises for obedience. We cannot be perfect in this lifetime, but we can do the best we can, and ask for forgiveness when we are slack in some areas. God knows us better than we do ourselves, and while we can kid ourselves, we cannot fool Him. But if we love God as it is written in Matthew 22:37 & 39 (below) we will be keeping the most important commands of God and won’t commit all the other sins, because upon these, all the laws hang. Therefore, we can ask God for the blessings for obedience written in Deuteronomy 28, and expect to receive them, because we are perfect in God’s eyes through our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. My study of God’s Word has taught me that His Word doesn’t lie, and He’s no discerner of persons, and we receive what we believe. So we must build up our faith and belief by reading His Word, so we’ll believe what’s important and not doubt when we ask things of God.
Matthew 22:37-40 “37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Now, when we read the curses of disobedience in Deuteronomy chapter 28:15-68, we can see important answers to questions everyone is asking. Such as, why are there people in other countries starving? Well, if the people of that country have idolized foreign gods, false gods, and not the One God, then He has cursed the land and the people and all their children, too, as it is written in Deuteronomy 28:45-48 “45Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
46And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
47Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;
48Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.”
The curses are hard to read. But as we read it, we can literally see things in these curses for disobedience that are happening today. Even the reason that tribes of people are cannibalistic, is a curse for disobedience; for worshipping false gods, and the curse is upon their children, too.
The Good News is the Gospel of Christ Jesus, and it says that Jesus breaks generational curses. Through faith in Christ Jesus, we are forgiven, and those past sins that had us bound are forgiven, and the bonds are broken, when we individually turn to Jesus Christ. When we begin to keep God’s commands we are redeemed and begin to receive blessings for obedience that are written in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. When we believe in God and love Him with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength, and love each other as ourselves, forsaking other gods; keeping the two most important commands.
Yes, there are tests, trials, and persecutions, but God’s Holy Spirit will direct us, and He’ll help us, when we trust in Him, taking all our problems to Him. By learning His Word, it heals us, and directs us and before you know it, we’ve reached a new place in life where we begin to be confident in the Lord and His Word and believe it with a tenacity that no one can take from us. We really do turn into a new creature, born again, old things passed away and all things new, and begin to walk in new grace every day with His peace within us, and joy unspeakable, and dear reader, when you begin to see the little things that you love unfold before your eyes, things that you’ve not told anyone about, and only God knows, you’ll begin to fall in love with God as He encourages you and wooes you to Him, giving you joy unimaginable. Things that used to make you happy are no longer important, and you wonder how you spent so much time pursuing things that were a waste of energy.
Deuteronomy 28:9 “9The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.”
