Before the Christmas break, the Varsity Panthers took on the Johnson City Eagles for a nail- biting game.
The Panthers jumped out in the lead in the first period as they held the Eagles to only eight points. The Panthers, who were playing well on both sides of the ball, sank 14 points.
As half time rolled around, the Eagles managed to catch up to the Panthers and go into half time with a tied game at 23-23.
Both teams returned to the floor ready for action, and Blanco made the first move as they sank a basket putting them back in the lead. But the game was far from over, as the battle continued until the buzzer. By the end of the third period, the Panthers had held onto the lead with a score 35-33.
No one left this game early as the fight was still on and neither team was giving up.
The Panthers had the lead, and with less then 10 seconds left, the ball was thrown in by the Panthers was turned over, and the Eagles scored and made it a one point lead in their favor, the final score was Blanco 48, Johnson City 49.
Austin Thompson sank five two-point shots, four three-point shots and was two for two at the line for a total of 24 points.
Chase Howells sank 10 points followed by Jared Newby who finished with eight points.
Henry Greathouse, Layton Dworaczyk ad Austin Carrola each had a total of two points.
The Panthers will travel to Comfort on Friday, January 11 to face the Bobcats for their first district game.
