Robert “Bob” Morgan Announces Candidacy for Blanco County Sheriff
Wednesday, March 14, 2012 • Posted March 15, 2012

Blanco resident Bob Morgan announces he is entering the race for Blanco County Sheriff. The Republican primary elections are scheduled for May 29, 2012.

Morgan is a native Texan and was born and raised in Harlingen, Texas.  He attended high school in San Antonio where he attended Peacock Military Academy.  Upon graduation from high school, he joined the US Army and served in Vietnam.

After attending Middle Rio Grande Law Enforcement Academy at Southwest Texas Jr. College in Uvalde, he started his career in law enforcement in Real County. Morgan has been in law enforcement for over 25 years.

In 1999, he moved to Blanco County with his wife, Flora, and their two children, Tina and Jack. “Both Tina and Jack are enrolled in Blanco High School. Tina is a senior and Jack is a freshman. I also have two married daughters, Jessica Ramirez and Sarah Finch, and five grandchildren in Blanco. As you can see, I have a big stake in Blanco County,” said Morgan.

Morgan was hired on with the Blanco Police Department in 1999 as a patrol officer assigned to the evening shift.  During his one-and-a-half years of employment with the Blanco Police Department, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

On December 1, 2000, he became Unit 108 with the Blanco County Sheriff’s Department assigned to the evening shift.

In 2006, through dedication and a strong commitment to service, Morgan was promoted to corporal and was awarded Officer of the Year by the Hill Country 100 Club.

“Sheriff Elsbury, Unit 101, appointed me as his Chief Deputy when our dear friend, Chief Deputy Joe Johnson, retired in 2010. Sheriff W. R. ‘Bill’ Elsbury passed away on February 20 of this year and that afternoon I was appointed acting Sheriff by County Judge Bill Guthrie.  I accepted this position with much sadness.  On February 28 of this year I was appointed Sheriff by the Commissioner’s Court with the vote being unanimous. Through dedication and a commitment to serve the citizens of Blanco County, my career with the Blanco County Sheriff’s Department became a very rewarding experience for me.  The accomplishments I’ve made have been with great enthusiasm. I stand on my own merit and I am asking for your support,” stated Morgan.
