The past couple of weeks have seen several local youth place animals in the premium sale at the annual San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Overall, 11 animals from Blanco qualified for the auction in their respective species while several others just missed out on placing high enough to sell.
The first week of the market animals featured the market lambs and goats. Tyler Hardin led the way, placing both a lamb and goat in the sale with his Medium Wool sheep finishing 5th and his meat goat 8th. Tyler’s brother Trevor also did well, placing 3rd in the Southdown class. Other locals making the sale with lambs included Dalton Savanich with a 4th place Medium Wool and Robert Jones with a 9th place Medium Wool.
The second week of market animals continued to be successful for Blanco exhibitors showing barrows and steers. Hanna Garrett placed 2nd with a Chester White barrow while Brenna Wallace took home a 4th place ribbon in the Hampshire division and Asher Haack placed 5th with a Crossbred barrow. The show came to a conclusion with the steer show, where Kolby Marek led the way with a 2nd place Santa Gertrudis steer. Kelton Marek also did well, showing a 4th place Limousin steer while James Leachman finished 4th with a Simmental.
Many of these same exhibitors, along with many others, will now make final preparations for upcoming shows at Houston and Austin as the major livestock show season draws to a conclusion.
