Frederick Francis Nolan of Johnson City, TX, slipped away peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2012. Fred was born in San Antonio, TX on February 21, 1924, the son of Frank and Isabell Nolan, and grew up in San Antonio. After graduating from St. Gerard’s High School, Fred joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 at the start of World War II, and served thirty two months of overseas combat duty as a Sub-chaser in the Atlantic Theater, and a gunner on the battleship U.S.S. Stringham (APD 6) in the Pacific Theater. Fred fought in nine major battles from Guadalcanal up the chain of the Pacific islands. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Fred married Lois in 1947 and worked for Dunn & Bradstreet, Inc. while he earned a marketing degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and they started their family. Fred retired from Dunn & Bradstreet after forty years as a marketing executive and returned to his ranch in Johnson City to the life he loved. A dedicated husband and father, Fred’s marriage of 63 years with his best friend and loving wife, Lois, and raising his four children, Fred Jr., Joseph, Jerry, and Debby, were the crowning moments and accomplishments in his life. With his gift for visiting and listening intently and understanding the needs of others, Fred’s love for God, his family and friends provided a guiding light for everyone he touched. As a Texas outdoorsman and rancher, Fred was in harmony with nature and loved raising cattle and other livestock, playing golf, fishing and hunting and sharing the outdoors adventures with his friends and family.

Along with his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois; son, Joseph Nolan; brother, Thomas Nolan; and sister, Mary Evelyn Heisig. Fred is survived by his sons, Fred Jr. and Jerry; daughter Debby Cacchioli; brother, Leonard Nolan; sister, Virginia Menicucci; and his two treasured granddaughters, Vanessa and Rebecca Cacchioli; and many dear friends. Fred’s strong faith in God brought him peace all the days of his life.

A memorial Mass will be held for Fred on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 285 US 281 Loop Rd., Johnson City, TX 78636. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1608, Johnson City, TX 78636.
