William “Bill” O’Dell Hines, 87, of Kingsland, TX, passed away March 15, 2012. He was born March 22, 1924, to James Linsey Hines and Vester O’Dell (McCay) Hines in Bradley, AR.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nora Maxine Waxler Dixon Hines on November 18, 2010; three brothers, five sisters, his dog buddy in 2003 and his grandcat, Pumkin in 2012.

Bill was the 9th of ten children. He was raised on a farm in Arkansas where he raised hogs to have spending money growing up. He had many interests in life and enjoyed them all. He fished any chance he got and hunted during duck and deer season; liked to plant a spring and fall vegetable garden and an assortment of flowers, played the guitar for Hank Williams and for the Louisiana Hay Ride. One thing he loved was home cooked meals.

Bill worked as an auto and diesel mechanic for many years in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas and was a long distance truck driver as well. Upon his retirement at 67, he began bailing hay and raising cattle with his furry sidekick, Buddy. When the fishing bug would strike, Bill and Nora would take off for the coast, taking their grandson Nathaniel with them on occasion.

Bill is survived by his daughter from his first wife, Faye Hines Connell and husband John from Hope, AR; his children from his second marriage, which include Kevin Hines from Shreveport, LA, Byron Hines from Wheatland, MO, Billy Hines and wife Diane from Blanchard, LA, Gregory Hines and wife Dee from Keithville, LA, and his stepdaughter, Dowiece LaFoe from Shreveport, LA.

He is also survived by Nora Dixon Hines’ children, Shirley Dixon from Kingsland, TX, Sherry M. Dixon Young and husband Gregory from Baldwin, MO, Sharon M. Dixon Pertolanitz and husband Michael from Austin, TX and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his youngest sister, Pauline Hines Powell and husband John from Chandler, AZ, sister in law, Ruby Hines from Fouke, AR, daughter in law, Linda Hines from Shreveport, LA, his dogs, Baby, Missi, Lady, and grandcat Angel. Bill is also survived by many dear friends.

His children would like to thank Kingsland Hills Care Center for the care of their Dad the last few month of his life.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Blanco Cemetery, Blanco, TX. Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to any “No-Kill” animal shelter.
