Former Mayor Passes Away

Former mayor Jim Rodrigue, who served as Blanco’s mayor for six years from 2003 to 2009, and was the Comal Independent School District Athletic Director, died on Sunday morning, April 1. He was 65 years old.

Rodrigue served on city council from May 2000 until he was elected mayor in 2003. Following his retirement from the mayor’s seat, he returned briefly when he was appointed to a vacant city council seat in August 2009; he served on council until May 2010.

At the May 12, 2009, council meeting, Rodrigue thanked the council and the city for the opportunity to serve. He cited his part in projects such as bringing water to Blanco.

Outside of Blanco, Rodrigue spent 40 years in public education. Following his 28 years of coaching high school athletics, Rodrigue turned to school administration. First as assistant principal in Belton and then at Smithson Valley High School, he became assistant superintendent at Comal ISD and was named district athletic director in 2006.
