Winning first place in 12 of 23 events, the Blanco High School UIL Academic Team rolled to the District 8-AA championship in events held March 21-31. The team’s nearest competition was Harper, who finished 265 points behind.
Leading the way were sophomore Kristin Watt with 56 points in seven events and Junior Jacob Hallenberger with 53 points in five events. A total of 45 students, about 15% of the high school, placed in a contest.
Students who placed first through third have qualified for the Region I-AA Meet at Odessa College on April 20-21. First place team members also qualified. Teams who placed second and students who placed fourth will serve as alternates. A complete list of winners follows.
