Baker Guns’ CHL Class Well-Attended
Wednesday, April 11, 2012 • Posted April 12, 2012

Twelve people attended the Concealed Handgun Class on April 7, 2012, at the Baker Guns/Baker Surveying conference room. Mike Cox of Driftwood CHL does the instructions at the conference and then the range portion at the Baker Ranch, just 5 miles north of Blanco. The class is held on the first Saturday every two months. The next will be held on June 2, 2012.

The class consists of 10 hours of instruction and a test of 50 questions. There were four young ladies and eight men in attendance on April 7, 2012.

At the range, one young lady in her late 70s fired very close to a perfect score with her .45 caliber semi automatic pistol. Everyone did well at both the instruction at the conference room and the range. It was a long day but everyone appeared happy at the end; they thanked Mike and told him how much they enjoyed the class. He makes the class fun in the conference room but, on the range, he is very careful and will only allow eight students on the firing line at one time.

You must be 21 years old to participate. You may use the sights on your pistol and/or a laser sight. Make sure your laser is aligned with your sights and the barrel of your pistol.

You do not need a .45 semi-automatic to fire the course. The .380 is the minimum caliber and Baker Guns recommends you shoot the course with a semi-automatic even though you may want to carry a revolver. By firing the course with a semi-automatic you can carry either a semi-automatic or a revolver. If you fire with a revolver, you may legally carry a revolver. If you do not own a semi-automatic you can rent one from Mike Cox for $20, which includes a box of 50 rounds. The course requires you to fire 50 rounds. At 3 yards, you fire 20 rounds, at 7 yards 20 rounds, and at 15 yards 10 rounds.
