Lady Panthers Down Eagles for District Lead

The long drive to Junction for the clash of the district softball leaders, the Panthers and Eagles, proved to be worth every mile as the Blanco girls held on for a 5-4 win on Friday, April 6.

Callie Culton pitched the distance, going seven innings with six strike-outs, four walks, and five hits. The Junction pitcher tossed four strike-outs and gave up eight hits.

Abbie Culton led the team, hitting two singles with a run and a RBI. Angel Williams also swiped two singles. Meaghen Seales, Callie Culton, Mackenzie Johnson, and Payton Savarino each connected for a hit.

As the afternoon game heated up, the two teams battled for momentum. Taking a 5-2 lead into the seventh, the Panthers allowed two runs but stopped the Eagle comeback at 5-4 to end the game.

In a non-district game on April 3, the ladies defeated San Antonio Hawkins 20-0. Meaghen pitched two innings with Payton closing in the third. Meaghen tossed two strike-outs, one walk, and no hits. Nine Panther hitters batted 1000 for the game. Meaghen Seales, Callie Culton, Andrea Torre, and Kelsey Schwind each hit two singles. Angel Williams hit a single and a double, and Leslie McClinton leveled a single and a triple to bring in four RBI.

Blanco tallied another district victory on April 9 with a 17-0 win over Ingram. Meaghen pitched for the win with five strike-outs, one walk, and one hit. She also hit three singles with two RBI and three runs. Kelsey Schwind and Taylor Guinn hit two singles each. Kelsey added three RBI.

The Lady Panthers now lead the district 5-1, followed by Junction with 4-2.
