1623 Road Construction to be Completed Soon
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 • Posted April 19, 2012

Ongoing road construction west of Blanco on RR 1623 should come to completion within a couple of weeks, reports Mike Coward, the Texas Department of Transportation engineer responsible for the work on that road.

“This project is widening the roadway to provide some width for shoulders,” Coward said. “In addition, we are repairing some failed pavement sections, updating and adding guardrails and constructing new safety ends on the drainage structures.  The widening work should be completed by the end of the week.”

The crews will then head to Fredericksburg to finish up work on a similar project. It’ll take three or four days to complete that project, after which they will return to RR 1623 to finish up pavement repairs and construct new intersections and driveways.

“When that is finished, we will put the final surface on the roadway,” said Coward.

Drivers should expect to encounter lane closures and flaggers until the end of this week, expect only minimal closures the following week, and, if things go as planned, expect one additional week of closures the following week, and a couple of day of delays when crews put final surface on the roadway.
