Charles Colhoun

Charles Alexander Colhoun, Jr., 94, died peacefully Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Austin, TX.

Charles was born July 28, 1917, and he and grew up in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Houston, Texas. He was the son of the late Charles Alexander Colhoun and Jane Lucinda Farish. He attended Rice University and The University of Texas. Charles was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, pledge class of 1937. He married Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Kuldell in Houston, TX, in 1941. Following her death, he met and married Charlotte Jane Kuppinger in 1980 and they enjoyed 29 years together until her death in 2009.

Charles embraced his Scottish heritage and was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He entertained his family and friends over the years with many songs and great harmonica tunes. He was a Charter member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas.

In addition to Betty and Charlotte, Charles was preceded in death by his sister Jane Colhoun Stewart.

He is survived by his four children, Charles Alexander Colhoun III, Catherine Kuldell Colhoun, Carol Colhoun Groos and her husband, Bubba Groos of Johnson City; Robert Bruce Colhoun and his wife, Lee; Ann K. Phillips and her husband, John; Sally K. Johnson; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

The family is very grateful for Charles’s caregiver, Mario Guilalaff, who cared for him daily, and our special thanks to Nimfa Delacruz, RN.

A graveside memorial service will be held April 23, 2012, at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, TX, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family requests that donations be made to Hospice or to a charity of choice.
