Due to the redistricting battle, the courts have directed that there be no precinct convention after the primary and instead directed that the convention process start with the county convention. By court order, the county convention will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, April 21, at the Johnson City Community Park Building, 620 N. Nugent Avenue, Johnson City, TX. Refreshments will be served prior to the convention.
If you wish to go to the State Democratic convention on June 7, 8, and 9 in Houston, you need to attend and participate in the county convention.
You should be aware that if you participate in the Democratic county convention you will not be allowed to cross over and vote in the Republican Primary.
When voting in the primary, your voting card is stamped Democrat and this then allows you to participate in the Democratic convention. Since the primary is on May 29 and the county convention is on April 21, the normal process of certifying that one is a Democrat cannot be done. Therefore the court has directed that the parties require anyone who wants to participate in the conventions to sign an affidavit that they will not vote in the opposing party primary. This affidavit is a legal document and, if violated, will be a criminal offense. The affidavit will be provided to the elections judge in the polling place who will not allow anyone to vote outside their declared party.
Resolutions – If you have a resolution that you want the State convention to consider, please write it up and drop it off at the resolutions table at the county convention.
