Tithing, You Ought to Do It
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 • Posted April 19, 2012

I was raised to drop $2.00 into the basket when it was passed around at church. I was never taught the blessing we receive when we tithe 10% into God’s storehouse, as is written in Malachi chapter 3:10.

All my life I struggled financially, working two jobs most of the time, and even 3 two different times in my life, to make ends meet as a single parent, and not ever able to rest on weekends. My kids suffered, too, because they had to stay at babysitters and were deprived of my presence, and therefore learned values from their caretakers instead of myself.

But one day, praise God, someone asked me where in the Bible does it say that we have to give to the church 10%? Well, I’d like to share the following Scriptures with you, so you can do some research on your own, and “study to show yourselves approved” as is written in 2 Timothy 2:15.

Once I began tithing 10 percent into God’s storehouse, I’ve been able to pay my bills on time ever since.

It all began with Jacob, but it doesn’t end with you and I, because we need to let others know, too, that they’re missing rich blessings by not tithing into their church home. When we tithe into the church we attend, God says “prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” And I double dare you to begin tithing one dollar out of each ten that you earn, or ten dollars out of every hundred you take home. But I must add, it may take time, because God tests us, too! He knows our hearts and our motives.

If you’re doing it in obedience, with a good attitude, He knows it. If you’re doing it reluctantly, He knows that, too. If you’re doing it to test God, well, I wouldn’t. He’s willing to work with you, if you’re willing to obey Him, and stop “robbing God” as it is written in Malachi 3:8.

Genesis 14:20 “And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”

Leviticus 27:30 “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD.”

Leviticus 27:32 “And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.”

Deuteronomy 12:11 “Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:”

Deuteronomy 14:22 “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.”

Deuteronomy 14:23 “And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.”

2 Chronicles 31:5 “And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the first fruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.”

Nehemiah 10:37 “And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.”

Nehemiah 12:44 “And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.”

Nehemiah 13:12 “Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.”

Malachi 3:8 “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.”

Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Matthew 23:23 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”
