This week, we will finish our series on Revival Lessons. Here are some things we have covered: 1. When our eyes are open, we must acknowledge our lukewarm state, repent, and be on fire. 2. We, who are true Christians, must know that in Spirit, we are saved; but that in soul and body we are being saved - in the sanctification process. 3. True disciples of Christ practice regular fasting and prayer, as a discipline and blessing, to humble us and drive out unbelief; and not as a legalistic obligation. 4. For revival to happen, we must become aware our sin, acknowledge it, confess it, and turn from it. 5.We looked at the first 8 of 12 steps in revival given in Acts 1 and 2 - the first New Testament revival, if you will. Today in Part 6, we will look at the last 4 of the 12. Let’s get into God’s Word.
So, The Word has been preached; the way of salvation made plain; The Word gladly received; an immediate act of faith follows (Christian confession and water baptism); then… What? Go on your merry way? Go back to the world? You are fine now? You got your get out of Hell free card? No, no, no! There must be steadfast continuance in the Apostle’s doctrine (Act 2:42)! Steadfast means: constantly devoted, attentive, persevering, & diligent. That means everyday, the saint is in God’s Word. He becomes a student of The Word. Real discipleship - not empty profession.
They did not forsake fellowship (church) (1Jn 1:3, 7; Heb 10:25). They broke bread continuously, which means communion and meals (Act 20:7, 1Cor 10:16-17). They prayed (worshiped), gave thanks, and made supplication (petition) continuously (Rom 12:12, Eph 6:18, Col 4:2). Notice, this was habitual and continual action. They studied The Word, fellowshipped, broke bread, and prayed everyday. Real Discipleship is a fruit of revival!
This produced unity in the church (Act 2:44-46). They were all of one heart and soul (Act 4:32). They cared for one another (Gal 6:10, 1Jn 3:16-18, Jm 2:1-4). Far from socialism, this was free will and from the heart - quite different from the legalized robbery government practices. They were not forced to do this. They were happy, of one heart, they hung out with each other daily, in one accord. A long way from, “I can barely tolerate my brother or sister for an hour on Sunday!”. This is genuine revival. A real love for the brethren.
Then fear came upon everyone, and signs and wonders were done (Act 2:43). Mark 16 says The Lord confirms the preaching of His Word with signs and wonders - and it produces a fear of God. In great revivals of the Bible, as well as through out Church history, different Holy Spirit manifestations were present. There was often uncontrollable weeping or sobbing over sin, rejoicing over salvation, falling under the power of God (called swooning or fainting in old revivals), crying out in despair or fear of hell, and Holy Spirit baptisms, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, miraculous healings, deliverances from demons, and total life transformations.
Some demonic manifestations were roaring, barking, hissing, clucking, oinking, etc. Some Charismatics have foolishly thought these were Holy Spirit manifestations, and have tried to imitate them. They are imitating demons, not the Holy Spirit. That is totally pagan, and not Christian. The same with all of this ridiculous gold dust, gold teeth, uncontrollable laughter, etc. It’s time to wake up and smell the deception!
Finally, in genuine revival, the church is multiplied with real disciples (Act 2:47, 4:4, 5:14, 6:7). Man can use gimmicks and programs to multiply a church, but if the multiplication is not from The Lord, it is in vain. We want fruit that remains - the real deal. Life - long disciples, rather than once professing “converts.” Multiplication must be God’s way! Jesus builds His church - not man! Preacher, don’t get discouraged! If you are preaching the whole counsel of God in Spirit and in Truth, then rejoice in doing God’s will, and stop worrying about numbers! Rejoice if you have ten sold out, dedicated, on fire, holy living, narrow path disciples - rather than 1000 lukewarm, half hearted, sinful, indifferent, carnal, worldly professors of religion!
I pray I have stirred you up to seek a great revival in our land. Can you see how necessary it is? Our nation is teetering on the edge of destruction. My heart is burning with this message: Get right with God, and get right now! Get your life in order! Get your priorities straight! Seek God with all of your heart! Get revived yourself, and seek revival for others! Call me an alarmist, take it or leave it; but I’m just sharing what I feel in my heart God is telling me - and telling me to tell others. Until next time, rejoice in The Lord!
