Will “Bill” Joy

Will “Bill” Joy was born on July 30, 1934 in Hays County to Mattie Mozelle Sorrells Joy and Tom Joy. Bill died on May 3, 2012 in Batz Sur Mer, France at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Germaine, and two children: Kari and her husband, Grady Moreland of Henly and Patricia and her husband, Ronnie Bushnell of Johnson City. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kyle Moreland, Tara Bushnell and Dana Bushnell. He is also survived by his two sisters, Virginia Linder and husband Donald and Lorraine Joy, both of Henly as well as numerous nieces and nephews of Texas and France. He is preceded is death by his parents.

Will graduated from Johnson City High School in 1951. He served over 25 years in the US Army and retired as Sergeant Major. Among the medals he received were the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, National Defense Service, Good Conduct, Korean Service, United Nations Service, Meritorious Unit Citation, Viet Nam Service, Viet Nam Campaign and Overseas Service Bar. During his military service Will served in many countries both in the Far East and Europe. It was in France where he met the love of his life, Germaine. They were married in France in 1961.

After initially retiring to Johnson City, Will and Germaine moved to Henly where he was engaged in ranching and retirement until his death.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, May 13, Sunday evening at Crofts Funeral Home, Johnson City. The funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 14 at Crofts Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Miller Creek Cemetery.
