Posted May 18, 2012

Several members of the Blanco FFA Chapter recently attended the annual Hill District FFA Awards Banquet in Fredericksburg. More than 200 FFA members from 14 schools across the Hill Country attended this year’s banquet and degree check.

Highlighting the annual awards dinner is the announcement of this year’s sweepstakes winners in both leadership and career development events. For the twelfth consecutive year, the Blanco FFA Chapter was named the sweepstakes winner of both as local FFA members accumulated the most points throughout the year at leadership and career development competitions.

In addition to the announcement of the sweepstakes awards and the results of all LDE and CDE competitions, Blanco FFA members also advanced to area in four different speaking events. Callie Culton won 1st place in Sr. Prepared Public Speaking, while KellamNabers placed 1st in Soil Stewardship and Logan Dodd 1st in Jr. Prepared Public Speaking. Also advancing to area along with Callie, Kellam and Logan is Kristin Bowman as she placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking. These students will all compete at the Area VII FFA Convention in San Antonio on May 18th.

Finally, sophomore Mason LaBlanc was elected by delegates at the banquet to serve as a Hill District FFA Officer for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
